I can't learn to like space stories - what's wrong

Question

I like certain genre of scifi movies, like those which have stories about a future era on earth (like Upload in prime or Black mirror in Netflix). I also like pure fantasy movies like Harry potter or stories which have some horror element to it.

But however hard I try, I can't get to beyond more than 2 or 3 episodes of space scifi series, however popular/critically acclaimed they are - e.g. I recently tried watching Picard and Expanse.

Some of the things which I find particularly weird are the repetitive use of starships where characters are living with no access to natural water or sunlight and seem to prefer that life. Whereas extra terrestrial creatures which are neither robots, nor humans, are portrayed as emotionally confused creatures.

So what explains the wild popularity of these series? I grew up without having any exposure to scifi, I wonder if you didn't hear it or watch it as a child, it is unlikely that you like these stories as an adult.

Answer

This is likely to be closed as opinion/discussion. But the question is answerable:

Nothing is wrong

People simply like different things - and just because something is popular it doesn't mean you're wrong for not liking it, or if something is unpopular you're wrong for liking it (even if some extreme fans would believe otherwise).

Keep watching what you like - do try other things, but don't feel bad if you don't gel with it.
